CFA Program

The Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) Program is a professional credential offered internationally by the US-based CFA Institute. The programme covers Ethics, Quantitative Methods, Economics, Financial Statement Analysis, Equity, Fixed Income, Derivatives, Alternative Investments and Portfolio Management.

The credential is recognised by the UK NARIC (National Academic Recognition Information Centre) as equivalent to a master’s degree.  Successful candidates take an average of four years to earn their CFA Charter. Around 9% of candidates have consecutively passed all three levels in the past decade. At approximately R$20,000 (course and exam fees), the investment is a lot lower than a master’s degree usually is and you can obtain it without quitting your job or leaving Brazil!

There are more than 160,000 CFA Charterholders globally, and about 1,200 in Brazil. The relative scarcity of CFA Charterholders in Brazil gives a competitive advantage to those who want to get a better position and salary in the local market.  Locally, Banco Itaú is the financial institution with the largest number of CFA Charterholders – currently over 150 professionals.
